BJP has been defeated more by the factionalism in its Kanpur unit than by the BSP and SP in the past elections, party’s state in-charge Amit Shah said Thursday even as cadres claiming allegiance to different local leaders entered into scuffle in the race to welcome him.

“Suna hai Kanpur mein gut-baaji bahut hai (I have come to know about groupism in Kanpur),” Shah said addressing a meeting of Kanpur regional unit in Kanpur city where party’s prime ministerial candidate,Narendra Modi,is going to hold a rally on October 19.

He said it was due to the factionalism that the party had to face loss at the hands of BSP and SP in Kanpur region in the past elections.

An angry Shah walked out of a meeting organised at a hotel after some workers forcibly entered the premises. He returned only after the workers had vacated the place. The meeting —- one of Kanpur region office bearers followed by another of MP,MLAs,former district president of Kanpur and Bundelkhand regions —- started almost two-hours late.

BJP currently has no Lok Sabha MP from Kanpur region comprising of six Lok Sabha constituencies. It has only five MLAs in the region covering 33 Assembly constituencies.

“Situation was better in the past when party had won in every district of the region. But currently it has only five MLAs in two districts of Kanpur and Fatehpur. The party’s performance in the region has declined because of indiscipline and groupism based on caste within party,” a party leader said.

Meanwhile,Shah who reviewed the preparations for Modi’s rally, asked party workers to start a door-to-door campaign to invite people and visit educational institutions and hostels to approach new voters and associate them with party. Shah will be in Ghaziabad Friday to review organisational activities.

‘BJP wave will sweep UP in LS polls’

Kanpur: The BJP wave will wipe out Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh in next year’s Lok Sabha polls and the party will grab maximum seats in the elections, its leader and UP in-charge Amit Shah said on Thursday.

Shah said he has come to Kanpur to review preparations of the rally of BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi in the city on October 19. He claimed that a wave in favour of BJP was sweeping the state as the announcement of Modi’s candidature has “infused a fresh energy’ among the people.

Party sources said Shah,at a meeting here, explored possibilities to decide on the prospective BJP candidate from Kanpur.

“Who will be the Congress (PM) candidate? They won’t make ‘Pappu’ their candidate. They won’t field Manmohan Singh either. Then how will a party without leadership will lead the country,” Shah had said, without taking any name. pti
