A former member of Songadh taluka panchayat was severely injured following a blast in his motorbike at Khapatia village in Songadh taluka of Tapi district on Thursday evening. Police said the blast was carried out using gelatin sticks and detonators, which were kept under the seat.
According to the police,Manu Gamit,56,has been admitted to a private hospital in Surat and his condition is said to be out of danger.
Police said the incident occurred when Gamit pressed the bikes horn outside his house after returning from some place. He was accompanied by a friend, who had alighted from the bike before the blast took place.
Gamit, who suffered injuries on the lower portion of the body, was rushed to a nearby government hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Surat for further treatment.
Later,Gamit registered a complaint against his elder brother Sakra Gamit and nephew Dhiru Gamit, both residents of the same village.
We are questioning both the suspects. Gamits house is built on agricultural land owned by his brother. Sakra had on many occasions asked Gamit to vacate the house, but the latter stayed there, said sub-inspector N S Chauhan.
Police said that forensic experts, who collected samples from the blast site, confirmed that the blast was carried out with the help of gelatin sticks and detonators. The explosives were kept under the seat and suspended by an electric wire, whose one end was attached to the horn. As soon as the horn was pressed, the gelatin sticks exploded, police said.
The tribal people in the district know how to use detonators and gelatin sticks, which they use in fishing, Chauhan said.
