An elderly man allegedly attempted to commit suicide on the premises of Bhuj district and sessions court on Monday. He was hospitalised in a critical condition.

Around 12 pm,60-year-old Pravin Purohit walked into the court premises, carrying a bottle of pesticides,a division police of Bhuj said.

“So far,it’s not clear whether the man had any business at the court. However,it has been revealed that the man and his wife had been staying separately following a dispute. In his suicide note,he has hinted at differences with his wife,” investigating officer Rohit Bhatt said.

“In his suicide note,Purohit has complained that if a woman files a complaint or application against a man, action is taken without checking its veracity. However, the same is not the case when a man files a complaint against a woman,” A Division police inspector Jayvantsinh Zala said.

Purohit was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Bhuj by the state emergency services personnel. His condition was stated to be critical till evening. “He is still unconscious. A magistrate will record his statement when he regains consciousness,” Bhatt added.

The division police of Bhuj has registered a non-cognisable offence in this connection and started investigation.

Purohit,a resident of Merjapar village near Bhuj in Kutch district, earned his living by performing karm-kand (rituals).
