In what is being tipped as the biggest match-making event held in the state for the differently-abled,nearly 150 prospective brides and grooms attended the meet here on Sunday.

Organised by the Lok Seva Trust in association with the Blind People Association (BPA),the event saw participants from all over the state and even from Pune in neighbouring Maharashtra.

“BPA has tried to touch every dimension of life of the people with disability. Marriage is very important institution of life,” said BPA director Bhushan Punani.

The organisers introduced each participant by giving a brief detail of their annual income, caste and age. Later, they were allowed to interact with each other.

Among the participants was Khushali Shah,a speech impaired from Paldi area of Ahmedabad. “Khushali has studied till Class X and has done a computer course. We don’t allow her to work because we don’t want her to face any problem. This is for the first time that we have participated in such an event,” said her mother Hema.

Mahesh Modi, who came with his hearing and speech impaired son Hitesh Modi, said,“Our native village is in Mehsana but we settled in Pune several years ago. We read about this event in a newspaper three months back. In Pune, such events don’t take place. Besides,we hail from Gujarat,so we are looking for a Gujarati girl.”

The association announced to make the event a routine affair, which will be held in February every year.
