DGP Chitranjan Singh has ordered the Ahmedabad police to initiate an inquiry against a sub-inspector accused of showing “leniency” towards to a businessman’s daughter who allegedly mowed down a youth while driving her car in an inebriated state on December 31.

After the accident,sub-inspector BK Saiyed of the Vastrapur police station allegedly flouted rules and sent the girl,Labdhi Shah, for medical examination to a private hospital in Wadaj area. Rules say such medical check-ups should be done at a government hospital.

“The policemen cannot send any suspect or victim to a private hospital in an accident case. We have asked the city police to thoroughly probe the case and and not go soft on anyone,” the DGP said.

Soon after the accident,Labdhi’s father Chetan Shah had brought her to the Vastrapur police station, where Saiyed asked him to take her to a hospital for treatment. Shah took her to Shah Hospital at Wadaj.

Labdhi was returning in her car from a New Year bash in wee hours of January 1 when she rammed a motorbike carrying two youths. One of them died on the spot while the other was injured.

Labdhi was arrested only on January 2,two days after the accident. She was later granted bail by a city court.

The Vastrapur police said the hospital where she was taken has not yet sent her blood test report to confirm if she was drunk at the time of the accident.
