A CBI court on Wednesday reserved its order on sending Additional Director General of Police P P Pandey in CBI custody in connection with the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case. The court is likely to pronounce the order on August 17.

The CBI asked the court to grant a 14-day custody to interrogate Pandey. His lawyer said that there was no substantial material against him; a chargesheet had already been filed and therefore, the question of his custodial interrogation did not arise. However,CBI counsel Ejaz Khan argued that Pandey needed to be interrogated to find out the source of intelligence input. The argument lasted for nearly five hours, following which Chief Additional Judicial Magistrate H S Khutwad reserved the order till August 17.

Pandey surrendered in a CBI court on Tuesday after avoiding arrest for nearly three months. The court sent him in judicial custody, and he is currently lodged in the Sabarmati Central Jail.
