A Judicial Magistrate on Thursday admitted a defamation case filed by suspended IAS officer Pradeep Sharma against Delhi-based activist and author Madhu Kishwar. The court also ordered Sharma to be present in the court on January 18 and get his statement recorded.

Sharma has alleged that Kishwar posted derogatory messages on her Twitter account and uttered defamatory remarks against him and his family members during a talk show on a TV news channel. Following his application, the court verified the matter and ordered that although comments were made somewhere else, the witness heard and saw these alleged statements in Ahmedabad. Therefore, the offence does fall in the court’s jurisdiction.

Sharma, who is also involved in the snooping controversy,is fighting against the state government in the Supreme Court. He had stated in his petition in the apex court that the cases against him, lodged by the state government, were all false and he was being victimised. He had contended that since he knew the woman, who was allegedly snooped by Gujarat police and the then Minister of State for Home Amit Shah,he was being “victimised”.

These audiotapes, made public by two New Delhi-based websites last month, spilled the beans on how state police and Shah had put the woman under surveillance by the order of one “saheb.” Sharma has claimed that he knew the relationship between the “saheb” and the woman and, therefore,he was framed and arrested in false cases.
