Pankaj Shrimali, head of History Department at L&C Arts College, has refused to cooperate for the “reconstruction” of the incident in which casteist remarks were passed against him by Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Parimal Trivedi.

Shrimali had lodged a case of atrocity against Trivedi and the police are probing it.

One of the witnesses,GU’s arts faculty dean Pradeep Prajapati, also refused to cooperate.

Shrimali and Prajapati stood their ground when the police, accompanied by forensic experts, reached V-C’s office on Tuesday evening.

Investigating officer D D Chaudhary said that police would complete their job whether Shrimali and Prajapati extended cooperation or not.

Asked for reasons from staying away from “reconstruction”,Shrimali and Prajapati said it was “totally illegal”. They said the reconstruction was aimed at further delaying the investigation and accused the police of favouring the V-C.

The reconstruction,he said, was done in cases like police encounters only.
