Cops hunt for 4 migrant labourers in murder case

The Jamnagar police are on the trail of four migrant labourers in connection with the murder of a farm owner.

The Jamnagar police are on the trail of four migrant labourers in connection with the murder of a farm owner. The four had allegedly helped a couple in killing 65-year-old Velji Patel whose body was recovered from his farmhouse at Kharavedha village in Jamnagar taluka on May 4.

Police said Patel was killed at the behest of his daughter-in-law Vasant was allegedly raped by him a year ago.

Vasant,who was arrested by the Local Crime Branch on Saturday,reportedly told police that she had given Rs 60,000 to Keram Thau and his wife Sonbai for killing Patel. Based on the statement,police arrested the couple who hail from Madhya Pradesh.

Further investigation revealed that Keram and Sonbai had taken help of four others to club Patel to death on the night of May 3. “The couple used to work as labourers at Patel’s farm,” said a Crime Branch officer.

Vasant reportedly told the police that she had approached the couple a year ago to kill Patel after he allegedly raped her. “The couple had at that time demanded Rs 1 lakh to kill Patel but Vasant did not have that much money with her,” added the officer.

Recently,according to Vasant,Patel once against tried to rape her,following which she approached the couple who agreed to kill him for Rs 60,000.
