Protests against the August 28 twin building collapse in Atladara continued on Sunday with the women wing of the Congress party taking out a rally to the house of the chairman of Vadodara Urban Development Authority,N V Patel, and demanding his immediate arrest for the ‘murder’ of 11 residents who died in Wednesday’s crash.

More than 50 Congress workers were detained by the police in order to avert a major law and order crisis in Sama area of the city. The protesters, led by Vadodara Congress’s city president Narendra Ravat, were arrested near the lane leading to the residence of Patel, who allegedly turned deaf ears to the complaints of the residents demanding a thorough structural audit and maintenance since 2010.

The Congress workers started their agitation at noon and marched towards Patel’s house, shouting slogans,“N V Patel is a murderer and should be arrested”. Women agitators broke glass bangles near Patel’s house before being detained by the police.

Ravat, who was also detained by the police, said,“We are demanding that Patel should be charged with murdper and immediately arrested. Had this building been a private one,by now the builder would have been behind bars. Why is there so much delay in this case?”

Patel was said to have left his residence before the protesters arrived.
