Congress workers in Vadodara city were arrested in Alkapuri after they staged a protest against Minister for Urban Development,Anandiben Patel, who was in here on Sunday to inaugurate a VMC housing scheme under the government’s slum rehabilitation policies.

The Congress workers wanted the Madhavnagar probe report be made public before more housing schemes were announced.

City Congress president Narendra Ravat, who led the protests at the GEB circle in Vadodara, was arrested along with 20 others.

The Congress workers demanded the report of the Madhavnagar housing collapse be made public, and the officers responsible for the August 28 mishap be taken to task before the authorities went ahead with plans of launching other projects.

Interestingly though, the Congress workers did not create any commotion at the venue where Anandiben Patel was sharing the dais with other Congress workers.

Pragnesh Tewari, spokesperson of Vadodara Congress, said,“Since Anandiben is a VIP,the police did not allow us to get anywhere within 2 km of the event. So,we chose to protest at the GEB circle, the closest location to the venue.”

The Congress workers were later released by the city police.
