The Congress Sunday appointed general secretary Madhusudan Mistry as 2014 Lok Sabha in-charge of Uttar Pradesh in a move to counter Chief Minister Narendra Modis aide Amit Shah. Shah is BJPs in-charge of the crucial state.
AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi also assigned him the task of touring the country and get feedback from the grassroots level workers about probable candidates for general elections.
Mistry, who was in-charge of Karnataka polls before the UP assignment,is considered to be the brain behind the Congress win in the BJP-ruling state.
It was under the stewardship of Mistry during 2012 Assembly polls in Gujarat that the results in his Sabarkantha district showed a distinctive victory while elsewhere the Congress was defeated badly. Mistry is former MP from Sabarkantha.
Another reason why the Congress assigned him the latest job is that Mistry belongs to an OBC.
