Clashes over cow slaughter: 3 more caught

Three more people were arrested on Thursday,a day after a police force was attacked by a mob at Sansrod village in Vadodara’s Karjan taluka.

Three more people were arrested on Thursday,a day after a police force was attacked by a mob at Sansrod village in Vadodara’s Karjan taluka when it went there to carry out raids,following a tip-off that some persons were slaughtering cows. A total seven people have been arrested so far in the case. In the FIR filed by the police,39 persons have been named. Raids are being conducted in the village to identify more. A mob of over 120 people have also been accused of attacking the police in the case filed at Karjan police station.

Police said they rescued 51 cows in the operation carried out following the incident and were in the process of finding the owners of the cows and whether they were brought there to be slaughtered. DM Vinod Rao invoked the Prevention of Anti Social Act against the four arrested.

“The combing operation of the village is on. We have cordoned off the village and are keeping an eye on every entry and exit point. The process of identification of the mob that attacked the police is on and arrests are also being made. We are arresting the people named in the FIR even as we continue to conduct raids,” SP (Vadodara rural) Sandeep Singh said.

Police have slapped 14 sections of the IPC,including attempt to murder and rioting on the accused. Besides,they have been charged under the Gujarat Police Act,Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act.
