The licence of Mexican multiplex operator Cinepolis has been suspended for a month after it was found guilty of airing late-night shows at the Alpha One mall in Vastrapur area of the city. The international operator had started operations in the state a couple of months ago.

Ahmedabad District Collector Vijay Nehra said the action was taken following complaints from the residents living in the mall’s vicinity that the operator was running shows much

beyond the permissible time of 1 am.

Cinepolis has six screens at the mall.

Nehra said Cinepolis authorities were given a chance to present their side. “After hearing both sides,it was found that the licence holder had violated the conditions, resulting into inconvenience to the neighbours and others and hence the licence was suspended,” he said.

“These late-night shows, that usually finish at 2am,have become a constant irritant for the residential societies in the neighbourhood. We have been at the receiving end ever since the multiplex began operations,” said Manish Shah, one of the signatories on the complaint that was made to the collector in December 2011.
