BJP’s state parliamentary board on Friday decided to field Jankhna Hitesh Patel, daughter of the late party MLA Raja Patel, for the Assembly bypoll in Choryasi on January 21.
The bypoll was necessitated after Raja Patel died of dengue in August last year.
A few days ago, BJP had sent a team of observers — Bharatsinh Parmar, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Rajesh Chudasma — to Surat to take suggestions from local party leaders and workers for preparing a list of probable candidates. More than 200 people made representations before the BJP team.
Krunal Patel, son of the late MLA, had also made representation before the team and sought ticket for him or any family member.
Mother of two, Jankhna (36) is a home science graduate. Her husband Hitesh Patel is an electrical engineers and works at a private firm in Surat.
“This is for the first time, I am contesting election. During the last Assembly election, we all worked for my father victory. My father had created a good image in the party as a result of which, the party leaders decided to give ticket to me. I will also maintain a clean image and work sincerely for people… We will turn out victorious. All our community people (Koli) are happy with BJP’s decision and promised to vote for me,” Jankhna told The Indian Express, as supporters gathered at her father’s house in Sultanabad area of Surat.
