The Narcotics Control Bureau caught one person, found in possession of 19 kg charas, worth Rs 1 crore, in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The enforcement agency also seized the truck that had reportedly carried the contraband from Jammu to Gujarat. The driver of the truck JK 02 L 5673, which started from Jammu four days ago, has been identified as Harjinder Singh.
NCB had been tipped off about a tuck, carrying the contraband, coming from Jammu to Gujarat. Based on this input, a team from the Bureau set up a trap at Aslali crossroads to intercept the truck.
When the NCB officials, who were waiting for Singh’s arrival in Ahmedabad, checked the truck, bags of charas were found hidden under a drum inside the truck, which appeared to be carrying water. The bags were seized and Singh was brought in for questioning.
According to NCB, Singh had to deliver the consignment in Surat, but before he could cross Ahmedabad’s jurisdiction, he was intercepted.
During interrogation, Singh said he was to get a message on his mobile phone on where to deliver the contraband.
The officials added that the market value of the charas, which the NCB said is of original Kashmiri quality, is estimated to be Rs 1 crore in the international markets.
Through Singh, NCB is trying to track down the sender of the consignment in Jammu.
