Briefly State: NCP national meet in Vadodara put off

NCP’s national convention,which was scheduled to be held in Vadodara on September 15 and 16,has been postponed by a few days following heavy rains in the state,the party announced on Thursday night.

New Delhi: NCP’s national convention,which was scheduled to be held in Vadodara on September 15 and 16,has been postponed by a few days following heavy rains in the state,the party announced on Thursday night. Union Minister Praful Patel,who is in-charge of party affairs in the state,said the venue of the convention got inundated due to the heavy rains. He said the new dates would be announced soon.

GPP appoints heads of 17 district units

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) president Keshubhai Patel on Thursday appointed 17 district presidents of the party. GPP office secretary Suresh Patel said unit presidents in rest of the districts and talukas would be appointed in the next few days.

Man held for college murder

AHMEDABAD: The police on Thursday arrested a man in connection with the September 6 stabbing incident in HK College campus in which a student had died. The suspect,identified as Arun Jaiswal,is a former student of the same college who allegedly wanted to establish his supremacy in the campus. The victim,Vijay Kalu Desai (22),was a second-year BA student in HK College of Arts at Ashram Road. He was stabbed several times on his back after which he died on the spot. The police said Jaiswal had fled to Varanasi to escape arrest but they were tracking his mobile phone. They said Jaiswal and Desai had old enmity.

Crocodile drags girl into river

Vadodara: A girl was dragged into waters of Surya river near Kotambi village,around 15 km away from Vadodara towards Halol,while she was washing clothes on Thursday. Another girl who was with victim Meeta Solanki (20) informed villagers who in turn alerted fire brigade. “Our team tried to find and rescue the girl with a boat and multi-grab hook but could not locate her,” said Hitesh Tapariya,chief fire officer,Vadodara city.
