Poor Class XII girls to get free govt coaching
Vadodara:The economically backward girl students of Class XII (Science) in Chhota Udepur taluka of Vadodara district will be given special guidance through coaching classes this year. Chhota Udepur,a tribal taluka,is one among 26 talukas added this year to a list of 30 developing talukas in the state where government is running this programme.
Surat cops to hold sadbhavana cricket
Surat:The police are organising a cricket tournament to celebrate the Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. The motive behind the tournament is to establish unity and communal harmony,police officials said. The winning team will get cash prize of Rs 1,11,111 and a trophy,while runners up will get cash prize of Rs 55,555.
Six booked for ransacking temple
Rajkot:A suspended policeman and five others have been booked after allegedly ransacking a Vaishnav Haveli (temple) in Royal Park on Kalaward Road in Rajkot city late on Monday. The priest of Haveli had overnight migrated to Porbandar for the safety,police said. According to police,Mahendrasinh Zala,who lives in the vicinity of the Haveli,had a dispute with caretakers over the arrangements for the devotees visiting the temple.
In dry Surat,Tapi in spate
Surat:People on Tuesday flocked to see Tapi river in spate following release of water from Ukai dam after heavy rains in its upper catchment areas in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Civic body officials said fire personnel had been alerted as a precautionary measure. Ukai dam authorities said they would continue releasing around one lakh cusecs of water daily into Tapi as long as the dam received a heavy inflow.
