Ahmedabad: A local court, which was to frame charges against seven disciples of controversial godman Asaram Bapu in connection with the death of two boys studying at his ashram,on Saturday adjourned it till October 5.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S V Parekh adjourned the hearing as three of the seven accused were absent.

On July 5,2008,decomposed bodies of cousins Dipesh Vaghela (10) and Abhishek Vaghela (11),who were studying at Asaram’s gurukul in Motera here, were found on the banks of Sabarmati river behind his ashram. The boys had gone missing two days earlier.

BJP-JDU clash in RS over CM

New Delhi: In the backdrop of a changed political equation, the JD(U) and BJP on Saturday clashed once again in the Rajya Sabha — the third time in the Monsoon Session with Shivanand Tiwari from the former NDA ally attacking Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his reported stand on manual scavenging.

This was the first session in Parliament ever since the JD(U) walked out of the NDA fold on June 16 over Modi being made the BJP campaign committee chief, bringing to an end their 17-year-long alliance.

Tiwari,a senior member of the JD(U),attacked Modi while referring to a 2008 report in a national daily saying that the Gujarat Chief Minister had stated that those engaged in manual scavenging are “doing it because they feel, they get spiritual pleasure”. “We have a Chief Minister, who makes a speech among officials of his state, which is a matter of concern. He says that those engaged in manual scavenging are doing so from generations and that he is not ready to accept that they are doing it under compulsion. He says, they are doing it because they feel that they get spiritual pleasure. This report was published in 2008,” Tiwari said.

It’s for BJP to decide on Modi: RSS

New Delhi: Amid talk of a decision on Narendra Modi being projected as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate anytime soon, the RSS on Saturday said that it has already made its position clear on the key issue and it was for the BJP to take a decision on it.

The remarks by Sangh assume significance as they came ahead of a two-day high-level meeting of the RSS,VHP and BJP leaders where Modi will be present.

Modi has already been made BJP’s election campaign committee and speculation is rife of his being made the BJP’s PM face ahead of the 2014 general elections.

“The Sangh has already made its position clear. Sangh has already informed the party. The party knows it. It is for the party to decide who to declare and when to decide so. I will not say this here,” RSS spokesperson Manmohan Vaidya said on projection of Modi as BJP’s PM candidate.

Asked if the RSS will not discuss the issue of leadership in BJP and who should be projected as an alternative to the current leadership,Vaidya said “such discussion is continuing everyday.”

On whether there will all other discussions except the political situation,Vaidya said,“Elections are nearing. The alternative has to be given by the public and the party is already preparing itself in this regard. Thus, the issue of alternative has moved much forward.”

Vaidya said that Modi will be attending the two-day session where top leaders of the RSS and BJP will discuss the situation prevailing in the country. Terming the forthcoming meet, starting tomorrow,as “routine”,the RSS spokesperson said a total of 65 leaders, including 25 from the RSS and 12 from the BJP,besides from 13 other organisations will meet for an “exchange of notes” and “sharing of views”.

CM to address rally in Delhi on Sep 29

New Delhi: Chief Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders will address the party’s rally here on September 29. Announcing this at the Delhi BJP’s meeting here, state unit president Vijay Goel said,“It would give a further boost to the BJP’s poll readiness.” He added that they will launch a door to door campaign for the rally. In charge of Delhi elections and former BJP national president Nitin Gadkari, who presided over the meeting, asked party workers to gear up for the poll battle.

‘How will Modi explain to supporters he doesn’t want to be PM’

Mumbai: Noting that Narendra Modi’s statement that he did not dream of becoming the prime minister may have satisfied the child who asked it,Shiv Sena on Saturday wondered how was the BJP leader going to explain this to those in his party who are clamouring for announcement of his candidature for the top post. There appears to be different streams within the BJP on announcing Modi as the prime ministerial nominee, which is why no announcement has been made so far,an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana said.

“Modi has announced that he has no desire to become the PM… But how will he explain this to his party leaders who are putting pressure to make him the PM candidate,” it said.

BJP leader Rajnath Singh said that Modi is the party’s campaign committee chief and the party is sure to win 270 seats. But now, after the child’s question,Modi has decided not to leave Gujarat till 2017,the newspaper edited by Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, said.

“With this new stance of Modi, those who want him declared PM nominee must have been disheartened. NCP chief Sharad Pawar has understood it well that a person whose name is projected never becomes the prime minister,” it said.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Devendra Fadnavis said the party respects freedom of the press “but such remarks could have been avoided”.
