The city police have booked a bootlegger for allegedly killing six animals by pouring acid on them at Golwad slums in the Karelibag area of Vadodara over the last few days.

Locals said the gruesome act by Mahesh Rajput killed six dogs and as many goats. He has been booked under Section 428 of the IPC and Section 11 of the Prevention to Cruelty to Animals Act.

The incident came to light on Sunday after animal activist Neha Patel was informed about the incident by the residents. “The residents asked me to take care of the dogs who had received severe burns injuries. Initially,I thought it must have been an accident. But when I reached the spot,I was told that Rajput has been pouring acid on the animals as they were creating problems in his illegal business,” Patel told The Indian Express.

“Neighbours told me that Chauhan used to bring liquor consignments late in the night and the dogs used to bark at him. This obviously irked him and he took this inhuman step. He would pour huge quantity of sulfuric acid on the animals when they were asleep or not alert,” said the activist, adding that three other animals were in critical condition.
