A CITY COURT sent alleged land mafia Baldev Dangar alias Bali and his three accomplices to seven-day police custody on Tuesday even as police recovered six more mobile phones and a laptop from Morthala village in Surendranagar district where the gang had been hiding before their arrest.

After arresting them from Beti village on the outskirts of the city on National Highway 27 early on Monday morning, a team of the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Rajkot city police took Bali and his accomplices Arjun Jalu, Arjun Dangar and Sekundar Bloch to Morthala village of Chotila taluka in Surendrangar late last night. The Crime Branch officials took them to agricultural farm of one Haresh Koli in Morthala.  “Bali and his accomplices had been hiding in a cottage in the field of Koli for the four days preceding their arrest. We have recovered six cell phones, one video camera and a laptop form the cottage. However, Koli is out of reach as of now,” Crime Branch police inspector Hitesh Gadhvi said.  With this, the number of mobile phones seized from the accused has gone to eight.

Meanwhile, police produced the arrested quartet before a local court in the city on Tuesday morning with an application seeking their custody for 14 days. The court granted Crime Branch custody of the four for seven days.

“We have also moved an application before the court seeking permission to handcuff and tie the four accused during their production in court. The court has reserved its order on our application till Wednesday,” Gadhvi added.
