Shortly after he was expelled from the Congress,Anirudh Prasad alias Sadhu Yadav — brother-in-law of RJD chief Lalu Prasad — on Monday projected Narendra Modi as a “backward leader” and vowed to campaign for him in the 2014 general elections. He also argued that the 2002 Gujarat riots was an “old issue” and claimed “Muslim brothers” will vote for Modi.

A few days after the former Gopalganj MP met Modi and termed him a better PM material than Rahul Gandhi,Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday expelled him from primary membership of the party.

Yadav said that his meeting with Modi, which led to his expulsion from the Congress, was a result of an invitation from the Gujarat Chief Minister. “He wanted to meet me. I tried to delay it by two weeks, but he said that he was busy and I agreed and went to have a tea with him,” Sadhu said. Yadav said that he and Modi had been in touch for some time and argued there were no “mediators” between the two.

Talking to The Indian Express after the news about his expulsion came in,Yadav showered praises on Modi and hit out at the Gandhi family. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul,he said, were inaccessible to the leaders as well as the common man.

Yadav said that he was enamoured by Modi’s personality and had nothing to do with the BJP as he dismissed Bihar BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi’s statement that he was unwelcome in the party. Sources, however, said that he was eying to contest from the Siwan Lok Sabha seat, which has a sizeable Yadav population and abuts Gopalganj that was represented by him in the past but is now a reserved seat.

“The Congress is jittery over Modi. It is going to be ousted from power because of its misrule and all round corruption and will not come back for the next 20 years. 2014 is going to be Modi’s year. The people of this country are going to see Modi unfurl the tricolour from Red Fort next year,” he said.

Interestingly,he sought to project Modi as a backward leader although neither the BJP nor Modi have ever spoken about his caste. “Will 3 per cent of the population decide who should be the PM. This time, the majority of this country — the backward classes — will decide,” he said.

Asked about post-Godhra riots,Yadav was dismissive. “That issue is over. Haven’t riots happened under Congress governments…Muslim brothers will vote for Modi in large numbers,” he said.

Yadav also slammed Lalu. “He has become a spokesperson of the Congress, not realising that they will not give any importance to him,” he said.

Sadhu Yadav, who won the Gopalganj seat in 2004 election on RJD ticket, fell out with Lalu in 2009 and joined the Congress.
