The teenage boy from Amreli, who is suspected to have murdered his 21-year-old sister for her alleged affair, was sent to an observation home in Rajkot early on Tuesday. “After his statement was recorded in the presence of a magistrate and an officer of Social Justice Department, the boy was sent to zonal observation home,” Circle Police Inspector of Dhari and investigating officer (IO) in the case,Narendrasinh Chudasama, said. The boy was sent to the observation home as nobody sought his release on bail, said an officer of Social Defence Department in Amreli.

The 17-year-old boy from Nani Dhari village was detained by police on Monday afternoon. He had allegedly confessed to have strangled his sister on Friday night fearing social stigma due to her alleged relationship with Sanjay Vala (27) and Bhabhlu Vala (49) of their village. Initially, the Class XII student had lodged a complaint against Sanjay, alleging that the latter had raped and murdered his sister after barging into their home while their father was away. But police claimed on Monday that he had concocted the story to hide his crime. While top police officers had claimed the girl had not been raped, those associated with the investigation said she had physical relationships with Sanjay and Bhabhlu, both of whom belonged to another community.

“Sanjay had an affair with her for the last four years and Bhabhlu, too, was involved, but nobody in her family knew about this. Her brother saw a wrapper of condom slipping out of her clothes when she returned home after meeting Sanjay on Friday and came to know that something was wrong,” Chudasama said.

But the boy kept quiet after his sister pleaded with him not to reveal it to their father, who was in Rajkot to meet their elder brother. “The girl kept talking to somebody on phone till late night and this enraged the boy further,” Chudasama said, adding that the mobile and the SIM card used by the victim was purchased in Sanjay’s name. “Lately, their meetings had got more frequent as Sanjay’s wife was away at her parent’s home,” Chudasama said. However, while her post-mortem report stated that the girl was not raped,it’s reportedly silent on her virginity, sources claimed.
