Condemning the “hasty decision” of the party in taking action against pro-Patidar leaders, the vice-president of Manavadar taluka panchayat Hasmukh Garda resigned from the BJP’s primary membership. “I have resigned from the party as primary member and from the post of vice-president of taluka panchayat. The party leadership has shown undue haste in suspending some leaders of the area for sympathising with the Patidar agitation. The suspension could have waited till the election results. The situation is fluid for BJP and at this juncture any strict action might alienate party workers,” Garda said.

Junagadh district BJP president Kanubhai Bhalala said, “He (Garda) has left the party as he felt that he had been neglected. Patidar factor may have been at work in view of their influence in the region.” Husen Dal, a party functionary, said, “Garda will not join any other party but will work voluntarily.”
