A woman and her one-and-a-half-year-old son,both residents of Howrah in West Bengal,were allegedly held hostage for several days by a moneylender in Gujarat. The moneylender had allegedly abducted them after the womans husband could not repay loan.
West Bengal Police took up the case with the their counterparts in Gujarat,and the woman and her son were rescued with the help of a close coordination between the two police forces, said Sunanda Mukherjee,chairperson of West Bengal Commission for Women.
Nayna Chatterjee,and her son Sayan,returned to Howrah on Sunday. The moneylender has been identified as Keoroja,a resident of Bhavnagar. Five others have also been arrested in connection with the case.
Naynas husband,Supriya,worked with a jewellery shop in Gujarats Bhavnagar and had borrowed Rs 3 lakh at different times from the moneylender. Though he had repaid Rs 2.5 lakh to the moneylender and assured him that he would pay the remaining Rs 50,000 soon,the moneylender told him that he had abducted his wife and son.
