Based on an RTI information received from the state technical education directorate,state Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi has alleged that more than 70 per cent of teaching posts in states 16 government degree engineering colleges and 25 diploma institutes were lying vacant.
Addressing mediapersons here on Saturday,Doshi said as on date,75 per cent principals’ posts,90 per cent of professors’ post and 73 per cent of lecturers’ posts were vacant in engineering colleges. Similarly,84 per cent of principals’ post,63 per cent posts of head of department and 70 per cent lecturers’ posts were lying unfilled in polytechnic institute.
Stating that the huge vacancies in engineering institutes reflected the compromise on the quality of technical education,Doshi said the vacancies had not been filled up since 2003 though dozens of the teaching staff retired every year.
He said there were only two colleges without principals in 2003. It increased to eight in 2005 with six principals having retired. It went up to 10 in 2008 and at present there were 12 colleges without regular principals.
