Three top Gujarat Police officers,including Director General of Police Amitabh Pathak,met suspended Additional Director General of Police P P Pandey on Monday afternoon. Pandey is in CBI custody at Gandhinagar till August 21 in connection with the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case.
According to officials,Pathak,ADGP (admin) A K Singh and Deputy Inspector General of Gandhinagar range R R Bhagat met Pandey for 15 minutes. They claimed that it was a courtesy call since the accused happened to be a brother officer. The meeting happened after the CBI granted permission; the officers met in the presence of a senior CBI official.
Officials said that the three police officers enquired about Pandeys health.
We sought permission from the Central agency and it was a welfare meeting in the presence of a CBI officer. I appreciate the CBI for allowing us to visit him, Pathak said.
According to sources,Pandey had complained of spondylitis,followed by numbness in arms. He was treated by a doctor from the civil hospital. He is suffering from diabetes and hypertension. Pathak said that Pandey appeared to be in good health.
