About two dozen students of the nursing school attached with the municipal corporation-run L G General Hospital, who took ill last Sunday, were found to be suffering from vomiting and abdominal pain caused by water contamination.

The students live in a private building near the hospital as their hostel building is under repairs.

“The students were admitted in L G Hospital on Sunday night after they complained of vomiting and severe abdominal pain” said Dr S P Kulkarni, municipal medical officer (health).

L G Hospital superintendent,Dr Yogendra Modi, said their condition was stable on Tuesday but they were being kept under observation as a matter of precaution. He said the contaminated water samples had been sent to the AMC Central Laboratory to find out the level of contamination.

According to Modi, the reason for the contamination was dirty rain water mixing with the underground water tank.

“Due to heavy rains in the city last Saturday, dirty rain water flowed down from the terrace via the staircase and entered the underground water tank”,he said.
