2005 blast: HC seeks reply from army officer

The Gujarat High Court (HC) Wednesday orally pulled up the Commandant Officer of Indian Army’s Infantry Division’s Military Station in Kutch district in connection with an accident of 2005 when five persons were killed after some explosive burst from the waste of the army in the civilian area.

The court has raised some serious questions related to the accident and asked the commandant officer to reply to the same by July 9 when the matter is posted for further hearing.

As per the details available,five labourers were killed at Madhapar village of Kutch district after an explosion in a scrap. Considering the accident as negligence of the army authorities,the concerned deputy collector of Kutch district had ordered them to pay total compensation of Rs 18 lakh to the victims.

Against this order,the commandant officer has approached the HC. The court has posted the matter for further hearing on July 9 and asked the commandant officer to clarify all these aspects apart from Army’s stand on the compensation.
