2 undertrials flee from jail

Two undertrials,facing rape and kidnapping charges,escaped from Godhra sub-jail on Sunday night by breaking window pane of a bathroom,police said Monday.

Two undertrials,facing rape and kidnapping charges,escaped from Godhra sub-jail on Sunday night by breaking window pane of a bathroom,police said Monday.

The inmates,identified as Vishal Vadher and Mukesh Raval,used drainage pipe and rope to cross over to the other side of the 20-foot compound wall to escape. They were lodged in the jail for last seven months and were charged under sections 363,366,and 376 for kidnapping a minor and rape.

While Vadher is from Junagadh district,Raval is from Sabarkantha. Godhra DySP B K Jadeja said Vadher’s case was up for hearing at a local court on Monday.

The inmates were locked up in barrack number 6 along with 21 other inmates,police said. Jail authorities learnt about the incident on Monday morning. Jail superintendent H D Gamit filed an FIR with Godhra A division police,following which a manhunt was launched to nab the duo. Jadeja said an inquiry was initiated to find out how they managed to cut the iron grill and get drainage pipe to escape.
