Two men posing as policemen allegedly robbed a woman of her jewellery worth Rs 22,000 on Nirmala Convent Road in Rajkot early on Thursday morning. The incident took place when Kiran Choksi (53) was on her way to a temple on Nirmala Convent Road at around 9 am. Two men posing as policemen stopped her and asked the woman to put her gold bangles inside her bag. They told Choksi that a woman had been stabbed and robbed of her jewellery on the road earlier.
Choksi took off her four gold bangles,gold chain and a finger ring,tied them in her handkerchief and gave them to one of the men as they offered to escort her back to her home. But after walking a few metres,the man who had the bunch of ornaments jumped on a motorbike of another man,who was waiting for him,even as the other man sped away on his bike,Gandhigram police said.
The men first won the confidence of the woman saying they were policemen and that they wanted to help her,but later ran away with the jewellery, Gandhigram police sub-inspector K R Kapadia,who is investigating the case,said. On the basis of Choksis complaint,Gandhigram police have booked unidentified men for cheating.
