Surat police busted a racket of manufacturing and sale of duplicate shampoo of almost all national and international brands and arrested two persons in this connection,officials said Tuesday.
According to police,the suspects were selling this adulterated shampoo in general stores in slums at cheaper rates.
Acting on a tip-off,a team of Amroli police and Forensic Science Laboratory officials raided a house in Kosad area of Surat and allegedly found two men refilling empty bottles of branded shampoos from a 200 litre barrel filled with chemical.
The police seized over 2,700 empty and filled bottles of shampoos. Pouches of several branded shampoos were also seized along with chemicals filled in the barrels and packing machines,worth Rs 3.90 lakh.
The two arrested have been identified as Aslam Khan Maniyar (35) and Hanif Siddiqui (24),both residents of Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
Police said they had come to Surat few months ago and were staying in a rented house at EWS quarters in Kosad area. The duo were produced before court and sent to one-day remand in police custody.
