The Ahmedabad police have identified 10 persons allegedly involved in the Shahpur clash that erupted a day earlier when a boy was allegedly being “kidnapped”. Two persons were arrested in this connection on Thursday, police said.

The arrested have been identified as Sarfaraz Sheikh and Mehmood Abdul Memon, both residents of Shahpur.

The police had identified 10 persons who allegedly pelted stones on the policemen when they came to the spot of incident.

The incident happened on Wednesday when a nine-year-old schoolchildren of Gyaan Yojana School in Shahpur was walking returning home from school on Shahpur Road. His father Manish Rajput saw the boy talking to a stranger who was allegedly found holding his hand. The stranger was later identified as Balwant Rathod,a resident of the same locality.

Rajput lodged a complaint of abduction against Rathod alleging that he caught Rathor red-handed trying to kidnap his son. Rajput told police that he rescued his son at the right time as Rathod was pretending to cross the road and was later going to run away with him.

Rathod, when questioned, claimed that he was trying to help the child cross the road.

Inspector A M Desai said,“He maintains the same claim that he was trying to help the child. We have got a remand period of two days when he would be thoroughly grilled. We cannot call him fully innocent at this stage.”

Meanwhile,in a bid curb increasing cases of bashing up of innocent persons by ‘panicked parents’,city Police Commissioner S K Saikia has made an appeal to the locals through the media to maintain peace.

He has also given instructions to his department to round up the miscreants who are taking advantage of these panicky situations and bashing up innocent persons and attacking police.
