A 19-year-old girl from Vadodara, who went to Chhota Udepur for a wedding, was allegedly raped after being kidnapped by a group of men late on Wednesday night.
The incident came to light on Friday night after she managed to escape the enclosure she was kept in and approach a couple on the highway close to the Madhya Pradesh border, who then informed the police. The girl is a resident of Thalnagar village of Vadodara’s Dabhoi taluka. She was visiting Pacheesgam village in Bodeli taluka of Chhota Udepur district to attend a wedding when the incident took place.
According to the police, the girl was lured by an acquaintance from outside the marriage venue to the highway, where around 10 others waited in a jeep. They forced her into the vehicle and took her to a village in Alirajpur taluka of Madhya Pradesh, close to the border with Chhota Udepur. She was repeatedly raped by one Vechalabhai Rathwa, a resident of Funmaal village of Alirajpur, and assisted by Menben Rathwa, Vikeshbhai Rathwa, Kanubhai Rathwa, and Sureshbhai Rathwa.
“One of the accused, who is known to the victim, took her out of the venue onto the main road, where a jeep was waiting to kidnap her. She was forced into the jeep and taken to a village in Alirajpur, where she was kept inside an enclosure,” an officer of the Bodeli police station, where the case was registered, said.
After being repeatedly raped, the girl managed to to reach the highway and described her plight to a couple passing by on a motorcycle. They contacted the police in Alirajpur, who then contacted the Bodeli police.
