The Crime Branch arrested three snatchers and recovered 13 gold chains along with four two-wheelers. The three have been identified as Vicky, Usman Ali and Shakil Ahmad, all residents of Delhi. Out of the three, Vicky is involved in more than 100 cases of snatching in Tricity, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and others parts of Haryana. The trio was arrested by a team of Crime Branch headed by Inspector Amanjot Singh.
Sharing details about the arrest, SP Ravi Kumar said, “Vicky and Shakil Ahmed were arrested following a tip-off on October 10, Usman Ali was apprehended by people during a snatching attempt few days back near Sector 11. Later, he was handed over to the Sector 11 police station. The Crime Branch has taken the custody of Usman on production warrants.”
Explaining the modus operandi of these criminals, police said that they mainly targeted older women wearing gold chains. They use to stop them on the pretext of asking a location of a particular place, and once their minds got diverted, they come closer and snatch their gold chains. After committing the crime, they fled from the spot on a motorcycle.
Police said these accused tried hard to sell these gold chains in Chandigarh and around, but failed to do so, as no jeweler accepted to purchase the items without proper bills. The trio went on to committing the crimes and kept the chains with them hoping that they will soon get a disposing point where they can sell them.
Vicky has a tainted past and in October 2016 he was arrested. He was also a proclaimed offender in 45 cases and was involved in more than 100 cases of snatching, robbery, motor vehicle theft. Some of cases are under trial while in some he is convicted. In a few cases, he has also been acquitted by the court.
