Badnore, police pay tributes to martyrs at five Punjab districts

Chandigarh Police on Wednesday organised ceremonies at five districts of Punjab to commemorate the sacrifice made by Inspector Jagjit Singh, ASI Amarjit Singh, ASI Lalu Ram, Inspector Sucha Singh and SI Amarjit Singh while serving in the Chandigarh Police. The functions were held at the schools and colleges in the native home towns of martyrs in which these valiant men studied. VP Singh Badnore, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, accompanied by DGP (UT) TS Luthra, paid tributes to the four martyrs in the presence of family members of the martyrs, staff and students of the respective schools and colleges and other prominent personalities of the local administration.

Meanwhile, at each function, Chandigarh police have honored a bright student with the scholarship of Rs 11,000 on the name of martyr and announced that the scholarship will be given to a bright student every year.  DGP Luthra said, “The scholarship will be given from the financial funds of Chandigarh police every year. It is for the first time when such kind of decision was taken by Chandigarh police.”The first function held at Fazilka, which belongs to Late Inspector Jagjit Singh, who was martyred dates back in 1988. Second function was held at Faridkot which belongs to martyr ASI Lalu Ram. Third function held at Hoshiarpur, which belongs to martyr ASI Amarjit Singh, who was martyred in December, 1989.

The scholarship on the name of ASI Amarjit was given to Anjali, who secured 91 % marks in the Matric class at Khalsa College, Garhdiwal, District, Hoshiarpur, Punjab. At the last Governor paid homage to Saheed Inspector Sucha Singh at Mohali district. Inspector Singh was martyred in June, 2013. The scholarship on the name of Sucha Singh was given to topper Harsh Kumar who secured 80.92 % marks in the Matric class at Munna Lal Puri Senior Secondary School, Mullanpur, Mohali.A ceremony to commemorate the sacrifice made SI Amarjit Singh was held in Moga.
