A DAY after Chandigarh Newsline reported how a woman parking attendant and her fellow male attendant were assaulted in the presence of policemen by unidentified men at Sector 22-B parking lot, the Chandigarh Police lodged an FIR and suspended one Head Constable in the case.

The suspension order came from UT SSP Jagdale Nilambari Vijay who saw the video as to how Head Constable Brahmpal and two traffic policemen behaved like mute spectators at the time of the assault.

Talking to Chandigarh Newsline, the SSP said, “Head Constable Brahmpal has been suspended and a departmental inquiry against him has also been ordered. Regarding the two traffic policemen, I have sent a report to the SSP Traffic.”

DSP Ram Gopal, who conducted an inquiry into the case, said that they had arrested one Panchkula resident who was seen thrashing the attendants. The UT Police has also taken video footage from one of the shops in front of which this incident happened. “We are still on with our investigations,” the DSP said.

The parking company had provided names of three persons involved in the incident. “I am thankful that I have been given justice. When initially I wanted to lodge an FIR and went to the police post, the policemen there had asked me to compromise saying that I will have to frequent the court complex,” said the woman attendant.

On Sunday, the SSP had directed DSP Ram Gopal to take immediate action in the case. Sandeep Bhora, the project coordinator of Arya Toll Infra Limited, the company managing the parking lots in the city, said that the policemen forced their attendants to enter into a compromise.
