Reliance Communications’ under-sea cable subsidiary today launched the Al-Faw Cable Landing Station (CLS) with Falcon cable system in Iraq for providing telecom services.

Reliance Globalcom has launched this service in alliance with the Iraqi Telecom and Post Company (ITPC).

“We are delighted at achieving this historic milestone and being the first private service provider to activate submarine capacity in Iraq. Falcon offers connectivity globally and will help connect Iraq to the rest of the world,”Reliance Globalcom COO Rory Cole said in a statement.

With this,Reliance Globalcom is now the first private sub-sea service provider to activate submarine capacity and directly connect Iraq to the countries in Middle East,Asia, Europe and North America,the statement added.

The direct connectivity of Iraq with countries will enhance Internet speed for its domestic consumers,it added.

Reliance Globalcom owns private undersea cable system spanning 65,000 km and is integrated with Reliance Com’s optic fibre running over 190,000 km in India to provide Internet services.

The initial design of Al-Faw CLS is built to carry Internet traffic of up to 680 gigabit per second (GBPS) with two diverse routes. The two diverse routes are integrated into the RCom’s Falcon network.

Reliance Globalcom is providing up to 50 Gbps capacity on each route in order to cater to the existing market demand.
