A local court in Mumbai has issued a non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya, the chairman of the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines in a complaint filed by the Service tax department. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate issued the warrant against Mallya and Kingfisher Airlines CEO, Sanjay Aggarwal after the two failed to appear before the court despite court orders.

Special counsel for the service tax department Advait Sethna along with advocate Ruju Thakkar had argued that officials of the Airlines, including Mallya had collected large amounts of money as service tax from its passengers but it had not been received by the department for the period between 2009-2012, running into crores of rupees.
