The state-owned CIDCO has proposed to develop certain areas of Thane district as mega-cities.
During a board meeting of City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) held last week, the issue of taking up additional regions for development was discussed and a unanimous resolution was adopted to develop mega cities in certain districts of the state including Thane,CIDCO Chairman Pramod Hindurao said today.
However,he did not elaborate on the other districts selected by the corporation for development.
Presently,CIDCO is operating in Navi Mumbai of Thane district and certain parts of Raigadh. The work of developing new towns in the Navi Mumbai region is almost getting over and the only major work left for CIDCO is the development of the new international airport, for which certain permissions are yet to be received,Hindurao said.
CIDCO would concentrate on spreading its activities in Kalyan Rural,Shahapur and Murbad areas of Thane district which are fast developing,he said adding that if the work is handed over to them, they would set up world class cities in the region.
