To bring in more transparency and accountability in public procurement, the Kerala government last month lowered the threshold for
e-procurement of tenders from Rs 25 lakh to a mere Rs 5 lakh.

1. All state departments, agencies and PSUs now follow the new norms for e-procurement for all tenders above Rs 5 lakh.

2. The National Informatics Centre (NIC), which is the service provider for the project, has been asked by the state to introduce e-Payment Gateway and include more banks for online payment.

3. For the Centre, the finance ministry has set a threshold of Rs 10 lakh and above for e-procurement. This is likely to be lowered to Rs 5 lakh from next April.
