State-run power and steel companies on Monday submitted 69 applications for allotment of 36 coal blocks.
While 46 mines are being e-auctioned to private companies, the government had on January 22 commenced the process for allocating 36 coal blocks to PSUs.
Of these 36 coal blocks, only one has been earmarked for steel companies. PSUs like NTPC, SAIL, Nalco and Neyveli Lignite Corporation is learnt to have applied for various mines.
The maximum number of nine applications have been received for Gare Palma Sector II coal mine in Chhattisgarh, while no PSU applied for the Barjora (North) coal mine in West Bengal earlier held by Damodar Valley Corporation, according to the coal ministry. Six applications were received from the companies for Utkal-D and Utkal-E blocks in Orissa
SAIL is learnt to have applied for the Sitanala mine in Jharkhand, while NTPC has applied for Gare Palma Sector II mine. After scrutinising the applications the government will announce allotment of the mines on February 23.
