ONGC to drill 406 development wells in Gujarat’s Cambay Basin

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is planning to drill a 406 development wells in the oil fields located in Cambay Basin in Gujarat. The proposed drilling is expected to be undertaken at the company’s Ahmedabad Asset located in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Kheda districts.

ONGC has also approached the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) seeking necessary clearances for the project that involves drilling development wells in a proven area for production of oil and gas. Public hearings in connection with this project will be conducted at three places including Ahmedabad (July 9), Kheda (July 8) and Gandhinagar districts (July 4).

The wells are intended to be dug in different talukas including Daskroi, Ahmedabad City, Sanand, Dholka, Mansa, Dehgam, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Kathalal, Mehmdabad, Matar, Kapadvaj, Mahudha and Nadiad that falls under three different districts.

When quizzed about the development a spokesperson from the firm said that though the company has made an application to drill 406 wells, it might not drill all of them all at the same time. “The clearances have been sought so that the projects are not held up, at any point in time,” he said.
