Union Shipping and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said the government will float tenders for three new major ports in Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu by March, entailing investment of Rs 20,000 crore.
“I can assure you that we will issue tenders for these three projects which require an investment of Rs 18,000-20,000 crore, by March and the work on the projects like breakwaters will begin by April-May,” Gadkari said. The three ports will come up in Wadhwan (Maharashtra), Sagar (West Bengal) and Colachel (Tamil Nadu).
On casino permits he said, “We oppose things like casinos, and I will not give permissions for that. People will also not tolerate such things.” Stating that “Art of Living and Ramdev Baba (of Patanjali group) are doing good work,” Gadkari asked them to start ayurvedic spas to give massages and ayurvedic treatment at islands being opened up. He said apart from ayurveda and traditional wellness activities, “entertainment facilities are also welcome on the islands but definitely not casinos”.
