Unity is Strength, this small proverb is quite apt for the above issue as team work always makes any work easier and leads to better results. The bill aims at strengthening the power of the IIMs and nod endangering their autonomy. The older IIMs fear for the latter.
The main aim of the bill is to strengthen the power of the IIMs by giving them the legal authority of granting degrees. Unlike the IIT council,it will not have the decision making power. The bill aim for coordination and not the powers which erodes the fear of endangering the autonomy of the IIMs( the older IIMs in particular). The flexibility enjoyed by the IIMs will not be compromised,as assured by the MHRD. The IIMs also fear that the collective decisions taken by the council would be on endanger their individual standards. This may be true on certain fields but it has many advantages, especially for the newer IIMs.
In my opinion, the proposed bill will strengthen the powers and recognition of the IIMs by making them degree granting institutions. This would bring a catalytic growth in the IIMs and would enable them to reach to greater heights.
