Air India and IndiGo, earlier this week, ended up in a little advertisement war after the national carrier decided to up its game and take on what’s currently the best performing airline in the country.
Air India’s advertising agency thought it fit to put up an advertisement display next to the check-in counter of IndiGo at the Mumbai airport.
The advertisement read: Wish you a comfortable flight. Next time fly with AIR INDIA and feel the difference.
The very next day, according to an report in the Economic Times, IndiGo decided to respond in kind.
At their check-in bay, they put up a small standee that read: “Yes, Air India, there is a difference. Says the Government.”
To back their claims, IndiGo added a small table that shows its airline rated as the best when it comes to on-time performance and Air India as the worst. When it came to passenger complaint, IndiGo was rated as the lowest while Air India had the highest number of complaints.
In a statement to Business Standard, Air India Chairperson Ashwani Lohani said: “We are trying to project Air India for what it is — the real comfort level, the warmth, good leg space, great food and extra baggage space.”
While that may be the reasoning they claim to be behind their advertisement, clearly Air India’s ad agency didn’t think it through.
