With a day left for IFA to open up to the public, the big- ticket announcements continued with Samsung introducing a 105-inch curved ultra-HD television and the first ‘bendable’ television of the same size.
In another part of town, Microsoft Devices announced three new smartphones, the Lumia 830, 730 and 735.
Later, Samsung had something for the enterprise customers in the form of a printer that came yoked with an Android-powered smartscreen that lets users search for and print anything from the web.
The push for curved screens was obvious from Samsung’s press event, where the company said half of its UHD televisions sold in Europe had curved screens.
It now has the world’s largest curved screen, a 105-inch giant with 11 million pixel (5120×2160) screen resolution. Innovating on the curved form factor the company also launched another 105-inch screen, but a bendable one that goes seamlessly from flat to curved.
Calling the B2B space its biggest opportunity, the company Samsung launched a new tablet, the Galaxy Tab Active, aimed at enterprise users. It also showcases a new MultiXpress range of smart printers that have a 10.1-inch Android powered screen and UI that lets users access the net and print anything. The use of Android means it also becomes extremely easy for everyone to work on.
Microsoft Devices, meanwhile, seemed to continuing its focus on improving the camera capabilities with its new affordable flagship Lumia 830 boasting of a 10MP PureView camera with Zeiss optics and the thinnest and lightest optical image stabilisation system on the rear.
This as well as the other two models will also have better front-facing cameras to help selfie lovers. The company has also added wireless charging to all these devices, the cheapest price point at the moment for the nascent technology.
But priced in Europe at euro 330 (Rs 28,000), it remains to be seen if the Lumia 830 can be relevant in a market like India.
The Lumia 730 dual SIM has been priced at euro 219, while the 735 will cost euro 199 here.
