Volkswagen is all set to give its mid-sized sedan, Jetta, a mid-life refreshment for the Indian market. The new model will be launched on February 17, and will go on sale in the country soon after.
The updates on the new Volkswagen Jetta are majorly cosmetic along with a few minor revisions in the powertrain of the car.
The cosmetic changes are minimal and are of subtle nature since only a discerning few will be able to tell it apart from the current model. That said, the new Jetta face-lift will feature a redone front fascia which now sports a Volkswagen Passat-inspired three-slat chrome grille, bi-xenon headlamps with new L-shaped daytime running lights, larger air-intakes, new fog-lamp housings and re-sculpted front bumper.
Moving on to the side view, the new Jetta’s profile remains largely similar to that of the current model. On the rear, however, the forthcoming Jetta will a get a new-design rear bumper and a new pair of LED tail-lamps. The interior layout will also be revamped and is expected to come equipped with a new integrated touchscreen infotainment system. Apart from this, the interior will also carry a piano black theme and a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel.
On mechanical front, the new Jetta will retain the current model’s 1.4 litre TSI petrol engine and 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine. Albeit, in the new Jetta, the power output figures may get a significant bump. A choice between a manual gearbox and a DSG automatic transmission will also be made available.
The new Volkswagen Jetta will be pitched against the likes of Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia etc., in India the ex-showroom price will start from around Rs. 15 lakh for the base model and going up to around Rs. 18 lakh for the top-end variant.
