The new-gen CLS-Class was first revealed internationally in June 2014. For the Indian market, Mercedes will offer the new CLS-Class only with a diesel engine, badged as CLS250 CDI. Power in this variant of the 4-door stylish coupe is sourced from the same 2,143cc diesel engine that currently does duty in the E250 CDI sedan among other Mercedes models in India. The engine is rated at over 200PS of power  and 500Nm of torque. The new CLS250 CDI will have a 7-speed automatic gearbox for seamless transmission.

In terms of styling, the new-gen CLS coupe gets subtle yet significant updates such as redesigned headlamps with optional Multibeam LED headlights (regular LED lights will be standard), a new A-Class inspired front grille and a sporty front bumper. At the back, changes are minimal, except for a slight change in the tail-lamp design profile. Competition for the new CLS coupe will comprise the likes of the Audi A7 and BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe in India.

Next to the new CLS 250 CDI, Mercedes will launch the E-class convertible on the same day in the country. The chic-looking convertible will come in E400 petrol variant. The E400 Cabriolet will come powered by a 3.5-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine that develops 333PS of maximum power and 480Nm of peak-torque. Power transmission duties will be carried out by a 7G-Tronic plus seven-speed automatic gearbox. According to Mercedes’ performance claims, the E400 Cabriolet will hit 0-100km/h in 5.3 seconds, while continuing on its way to reach the electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

Prices, specifications etc., of the both the new models will be revealed at the launch day only.
