While Priyanka may have decided against a full-fledged campaign, she has been credited with doing much of the back-end work for the on-going seven-phase election.
“Priyanka has been of tremendous help to me and I have been so to her; if she campaigns or not is her choice. She is an asset to Congress,” Rahul Gandhi said.
Stating that the “BJP has insulted India’s womanhood”, Congress communication department head Randeep Surjewala demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah.
Katiyar, however, refused to oblige the opponent saying he hasn’t said anything wrong and there is no question of apology.
“Remarks of both Vinay Katiyar and Sharad Pawar are totally unacceptable. Condemn it,” said Naidu.
“There are several prettier ladies than Priyanka Gandhi who are star campaigners,” said BJP MP Vinay Katiyar.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met local party leaders, enjoyed a stroll at the sprawling Anand Bhavan premises and visited the Kamla Nehru Hospital before returning to New Delhi.
The Congress got a fillip in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh (UP) with Priyanka Gandhi agreeing to campaign for the party ahead of the assembly polls early next year.
Party leaders believe Priyanka Gandhi’s presence will bode well for the Congress which doesn’t have a face to project in UP.
Ghulam Nabi Azad will be going to Lucknow on June 16 for a two-day brainstorming session with senior state leaders on the strategy ahead. He has already said the Congress will project a chief ministerial candidate.
